Kevin Short Attends Summit At White House
Local business leader Kevin Short hopped a plane to Washington on April 24th to attend the White House Summit on Inner-City Children and Faith-Based Schools.
Inner-city education has been an issue of constant concern for years at all levels of government. Educational options, such as faith-based schools and other institutions have helped to relieve some of the pressure on the chronically under funded and underperforming public school system. Unfortunately, faith-based schools have been closing at an alarming rate in urban centers across the country, due primarily to financial problems. The summit, discussed during the 2008 presidential State of the Union Address, was announced as an opportunity to “highlight the lack of educational options facing low-income urban students” and to find “practical solutions to save [faith-based] schools – and more importantly, to save the children.”
Mr. Short was asked to attend the summit due to his extensive knowledge of the financial environment in the St. Louis area, as well as his deep involvement and concern with the education of children from low-income families. Kevin is the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Clayton Capital Partners, a St. Louis-based investment banking firm specializing in merger and acquisition advisement. In his free time, he is an active Board Member for the Today & Tomorrow Educational Foundation, the Laclede Gas Dollar Help program, and the Board of Education for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
